Strain description

The strain is deficient for the Biliverdin Reductase-A (Blvra) gene. Biliverdin is required for the color development of fluorescent dyes (NIR FP) that emit near infrared rays such as iRFP. Increasing the biliverdin concentration due to Blvra deficiency has the advantage of facilitating observation of NIR FP in vivo. Blvra-/- mice are versatile tools for in vivo applications of NIRFP and NIR light-sensing optogenetic tools.
