Strain description

Knockout mice of the Fa2h gene produced by genome editing. Fa2h is Fatty acid 2-hydroxylase, an enzyme that introduces a hydroxyl group to the 2nd position of fatty acids. The 2-OH fatty acids synthesized by Fa2h are the constituent lipids of galactosylceramide, which is abundant in myelin in the brain, and wax diesters, which are abundant in mouse sebum. For this reason, Fa2h knockout mice show phenotypes such as progressive motor impairment and hair loss.
