Strain description | MEF2A mice overexpress MEF2A specifically in skeletal muscle. It's reported that MEF2A is one of the transcription factor promoting shift in redskeletalmuscle. It's also reported that MEF2A involves expression of GLUT4 which plays an important role in importing sugar in the muscle. Red-shifted skeletal muscle promotes fatty acid oxidation and up-regulation of GLUT4 activates carbohydrate metabolism. Thus, it's assumed that MEF2A mice are available for resolution of preventive mechanism of diabetes or metabolic syndrome to target MEF2A. |
