Strain description

ATF4 KO mice are knockout mice deleted for ATF4 (activating transcription factor-4), a basic-leucine zipper transcription factor to belong to ATF/CREB family.

These mice are observed serious microphthalmia because crystalline lens is degenerated by abnormaly in the developmental differentiation of lens fiber cells, though the eyes of ATF4 KO mice have normal structure of crystalline lens until 14.5 days fetal age.
