Strain description

EGFP/E8 Tg mice are transgenic mice which produce E8 protein by the recombination of Equine herpesvirus 2 E8 gene from EGFP in the presence of Cre recombinase. These mice are possible to detect existence of E8 protein by using Flag antibody because of the addition of Flag tag in the amino terminal of E8 protein (ref.1). These mice are also able to detect GFP in the skin under UV light. Equine herpesvirus 2 E8 protein is also known as FLIP (FLICE/caspase-8-Inhibitory Protein), apoptosis inhibitory protein, thus this strain is used for the research of apoptosis.
