Strain description | LKB1 is an enzyme regulating the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) family. LKB1-DN mice are transgenic mouse lines with skeletal-muscle-specific overexpression of a dominant negative form of LKB1. The overexpression suppresses the LKB1 activity in the skeletal muscle. Comparison of LKB1-DN mice with AMPK-DN mice (nbio079-082), which show skeletal-muscle-specific suppression of AMPK, and with wild-type mice indicated that LKB1-DN mice showed decrease in endurance during exercise in addition to decreased O2intake and CO2excretion. These observation suggests that LKB1 exerts AMPK-independent effect on the diaphragm function and is involved in endurance during exercise, and also in O2intake. There are two LKB1-DN lines (LKB1-DN/B and LKB1-DN/C) with no apparent difference between them. |
