Strain description

ADAMTS13 KO mice are deleted for ADAMTS13, a plasma protease which cleaves von Willebrand factor (VWF) specifically. These mice are useful model for the research about function of ADAMTS13 and thrombocytopenia.

It's known that little activity of ADAMTS13 is induced thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) in human. ADAMTS13 KO mice don't show TTP-like symptoms at least under the normal breeding though unusually large VWF multimer exists in plasma. It also considered that some additional factor is related to onset because ADAMTS13 KO mice show remarkable thrombocytopenia by intravenous administration of collagen, but not TTP.

The gene background of ADAMTS13 KO mice is 129+Ter/SvJcl. It's possible to supply B6 congenic mice produced by backcrossing to C57BL/6Cr [ADAMTS13 KO (C57BL/6Cr congenic), nbio074].
